Banjee Ball

Banjee Ball Foundation is a Ballroom centered organization providing creative, education and career opportunities to LGBTQIA and women. What started out as a small voguing event in Los Angeles in 2013, founded by artist duo Purple Crush, Banjee Ball has grown to be an internationally recognized brand that opens doors and welcomes people of all backgrounds interested in becoming apart of Ballroom, one of the greatest American art forms. Created by Black transwomen in Harlem in the mid 1900s, Ballroom serves as a safe space for disenfranchised youth forming family house structures, and developing their creativity. Banjee Ball Foundation seeks to honor the traditions formed by generations of Ballroom members and leaders to build a vibrant and stable community.

Banjee Ball Foundation presents The Pioneer’s Ball: an initiative honoring and archiving the history and founding of West Coast Ballroom, in partnership OUTWORDS Archive and supported in part by an arts grant from The City of West Hollywood. This project begins with a filmed and archived panel discussion with the Founders and Pioneers of West Coast Ballroom that is free to the public. Hear their stories, learn the oral history, and get a sneak peak at the official Pioneer interviews that were recorded for the OUTWORDS archive. The next day will culiminate in the Pioneers Ball at the legendary Hollywood nightclub Avalon, featuring Icon Kevin JZ Prodigy (Beyonce, Madonna) on the mic, along with Byron Mugler and the return of Icon Enyce Gucci.
